Back to the Mountains

It was a great experience riding down the coast for me and Charlie. Definitly one that I will always remember. Lots of good waves and biking on a daily basis for over a month....it was pretty nice. It was a trip of firsts for me. I've never done any type of touring on a bicycle and it was a good challenge for me on a lot of the days. Especially when you are hauling a surfboard and wet suit....I never surfed the areas we biked through and it was great being able to surf Oregon and Northern Cali. I really enjoyed the Oregon coastline and the surfers that are in that area. It takes a certain craziness to paddle out in big, cold, sharky waters and I respect that. I liked the laid back and welcoming line-ups of Oregon. Its an awesome place!!! Sitting back and thinking about the trip brings up some great memories. We met some good people along the way and I would like to thank everyone for their generosity. We stayed with Brenden and Kathryn in Eureka and stayed with Shavon in Santa Cruz. I can't thank them enough for giving us a roof over our head for a little while. We met people named biscuit and wolf which was pretty interesting and enjoyed the talks around the fire at the hike and bike campsites. Right now in Montana it is snowing...CRAZY!! and I am gearing up for the winter season. I will be back to the coast when I get a chance and back on a bicycle when the snow melts away....Thinking Oregon might be the place for me....Look for me in the line-up!!!! PEACE

Golden Gate Bliss and half moon hope

We are currently somewhere out side of san fran! my geustamation is about ten miles from the bridge itself, we are looking foward to cross the bridge and see the city, and jump back on highway one back to the coast! its going to be a long day probably close to 60 miles to our hopefull destination, halfmoon bay state park( the next hiker biker state park that we know of). We are here at the library hopeing for email replies from warmshowers.com a cycling website much like couch surfer .com but so far to no avail, so we will be heading to half moon bay as soon as we are done here! Half moon bay is where the famed mavricks surf break is! wellp, just wanted to check in since we had the time! thanks again for everyones support!

50 or so miles to san fran!

Hey all! we are close to san fran! about fifty or so miles yeeehaa! this is where it gets a bit tricky finding places to stay, so if you are reading this and know of anyone who lives off of rt 1 on the coast who would be willing to give up some yard space for two weary bikers, that would be great! just let us know,, my email is inmysearch@yahoo.com thanks! any who, WE are at point rays a small town with luckily a library, Ryan surfed at salmon creek yesterday with 8 foot waves and fog rolling in, The waves looked fun and steep with short to moderate rides! We stayed in yet another state park last night, with free showers!! and a small plaza just a mile and a half down the road where we were able to get some loundry done and treat ourselves to a beer! we hope to be through san fran by sun no later, so once again if yall know anyone out there give me a holler please!
untill we meet agian.

We found ourselves in mendocino california two days ago, a small town with amazing veiws and people, We imediatly found the local surf spot tucked in a small cove right in town. After using the internet for a short time at the local coffee shop moody's, ryan headed to surf and i went searching for a bike shop to replace my almost bare trailer tires and front tire on my bike. I found with help from locals a shop called Catch A Canoe & Bicycles Too! www.catchacanoe.com/ . I was helped by jason and blake, both very awesome and patient guys. Jason looked at my rig and was able to get me exactly what i needed for the trailer and the bike, If anyone is ever in mendocino, cycling through or just there for vacation, stop in its a great shop run by solid folks!! thanks again jason and blake!! I headed to the local post office to pick up two packages from two very lovely people in my life filled with awesome goodies!! Then headed back to town to surf with ryan, the surf was smallish but with clear "tropical esc" water and just fun.We stayed outside of mendocino at van dam state park, right next to a beutifull cove where the new moon hung like a finger nail in the sky. We then rode to manchester state park, not the best state parks here in california, just an open field with lumps of dirt and a picinic tabel, ryan attempted to surf out in really foggy water and heavy white water, and was succesfull for a while, i opted to hang out, not a strong enough paddler and surfer yet. We stayed the night and rode about six miles into point arena where we are now, using the information super highway! thanks for reading our jargin!

Eureka, Redwoods, Lost Coast.....

We have been on a sweet adventure lately...We stayed in Eureka with a great couple for two nights (Brenden and Kathryn) and rested our weary bones after biking for a long time. We were able to get in the water and surf a good spot outside of Eureka which was firing at four to five feet and lots of fun...we left Eureka and set out into the Redwoods which was awe-inspiring...I am running out of time on the internet machine so I will continue the post later with the information on our hitch-hiking trip to the lost coast...PEACE!!!

Surfing and Biking WOO HOO!!!

a quick quip of where we have been!

From humbug state park, we cycled to crescent city california, !!yes we finally crossed the border, picked up old fashioned doughnuts and coffee, found great surf spot where it was breaking at about double overhead on sets and peeling perfectly down the beach. After the session we headed out and up the biggest hill known to man! Deep within the begining of the redwood highway, no shoulders and more rv's than i ever new existed! We attempted to stay at the top of the hill at mill creek state park but unfortunatly it was closed for the season! We pushed on through the oncomeing dusk, surviving on scoops of peanut butter! Passing an anatomically correct babe the blue oxe, and many small gift stores! We finally made it to elk prairie state park, ate food and slept. Morning brought sunshine and good spirits! We headed to patricks point state park, for hopefull surf, which turned out to be a deadly beach break of scary nine foot swells working very hard to desimate any stupid surfer attempting to paddle out! We were the only ones out! It rained all night and morning, cleared up mid afternoon, and we were off to eureka california! We ended up staying two days with an awesome couple from warm showers.com! and surfed twice in one day . The waves were head high on sets and clean beach break. Evening fog rolled in stopping the evening surf and we headed back to the house to pack up and get ready to go early in the morning. Tomorrow we will head to the avenue of the giants!

mike and jen on the left, and of course ryan and i on the right

I beleive we left off on the 7, today is the 11 and we have traveled to just ten miles before the californina border! During this time we witnessed one of the most awesome sunsets i have ever seen!, hopefully we will be surfing this afternoon, having only a small ride today to our next campground in cali!. On our trip yesterday we met a wonderfull couple mike and jennifer, who were really excited about our trip, and surfing. They fed us lunch and invited us to stay at there house when we got further south!! Last evening we arrived in brookings or, around 4:30 pm, two miles from brookings i broke two of my spokes on my rear wheel. Luckily we found a bike shop open late enough and with one last rim and tire in stock to fit my bike! very lucky! We will be keeping our fingers crossed for no more debaockles! sp?
